Decision Makers’ Seminar: Seeking Solutions on Waste Management

Under the project ‘Improving resource-efficiency and cleaner production in the Mongolian construction sector through materials recovery’ implemented thanks to the support of the European Union and Czech Development Agency, Caritas Czech Republic (CCR) in Mongolia has organized yet another activity, namely a decision makers’ seminar.

On the 20th of June 2019, more than 40 representatives and stakeholders from the construction and demolition waste sector, including state organizations, universities, demolition and construction companies, professional associations and non-governmental organizations have gathered. During the seminar, CCR provided attendees with detailed information on current legal framework on CDW management, on the situation of recycling factories in Ulaanbaatar and challenges they face on a daily basis, CDW recycling and opportunities in Mongolia and the best practices from other countries. Furthermore, the participants discussed what can be improved in the legal system regarding CDW management. The discussion was very fruitful and CCR has successfully collected over 30 comments and suggestions to add or revise the current draft legislation on CDW management.

As a result of the seminar, the comments and suggestions collected from the discussion will be reflected in the next draft of the procedure on CDW management in Mongolia. Next decision makers’ seminar will take place again in autumn 2019 and will involve even more participants from the CDW sector.
