Project: Sustainable Plastic Recycling in Mongolia funded by the European Union

Description of Duties

Under the overall and direct guidance and supervision of Head of Mission (HoM) and Project Manager (PM) and in cooperation with the local Technical Coordinator (TC) and local partners in Mongolia, the Plastic Waste Expert will be consulted on the activities and objectives of the EU-funded project “Sustainable Plastic Recycling in Mongolia”.

Project roles:

• Support the coordination and realization of the technical outputs,

• Provide consultation and recommendations on the activities and objectives requiring expertise and experience in plastic recycling and waste management;

• Identify, evaluate and provide feedback on the proposed collection systems, technology recommendations and solutions and facilitation of plastic recycling solutions as well as other activities requiring technical outputs;

• Provide a feedback on the pilot initiatives to identify sustainable solutions, innovations of plastic waste management of public institutions and stakeholders in target areas, in particular Khishig-Undur Soum, Bulgan province and Ulaanbaatar;

• Support the introduction of the proposed plastic recycling solutions to the local stakeholders, including representatives and officials in national and local governments, international organizations, regional intergovernmental organizations, NGOs, technical and scientific organizations, civil society, project partners, private sector and commercial finance institutions;

• Provide feedback on technical training materials, guidelines and tools;

• Attend meetings, workshops, and seminars to raise awareness about the project and to disseminate lessons learned from the project to a wider audience with a particular focus on the technical aspects;

• Provide technical training activities to the project teams members and other stakeholders;

• Ensure the high quality of all technical project activities;

• Provide technical inputs into procurement activities.

Miscellaneous:

• Perform other tasks related to the project implementation according to the HoM and DO instructions;
• Update the HoM and PM about the project progress, report immediately any challenges to activity implementation or significant change in the situation, and discuss adequate solutions;
• Respects CCR procedures and internal staff regulation.

Qualifications and experience

• Master of PhD degree in Environmental Science, Waste Management, Recycling and/or similar degree;

• At least 10 years of working experience at the technical and research position;

• Proven work experience in the waste management and/or recycling sector;

• Experience with the EU-funded projects;

• Experience with projects in developing countries.
