MONGOLIA – Ulaanbaatar, Representatives of youth non-government organizations and state organizations have learned best practices and ways to increase youth employment in European countries on 17 September to 24 September 2022.
Mongolia is a young democracy with a post-transition economy and an unemployment rate of 8.8% as of 2021. Whilst 34.6% of the overall population are young people aged 15-34, this age group constitutes a staggering 57.7% of all unemployed people. Youth between the ages of 20-24 constitute the biggest proportion of unemployment with only 55.9% of this age group employed. In other words, nearly half of this age group is unemployed. Therefore, the study tour aims to increase the knowledge and practice of youth civil society and relevant government authority members on youth employment and entrepreneurship in Prague, Czech, and Dresden, Germany.
The Study tour participants participated in a study tour to the Czech Republic and Germany to learn about ways that NGOs and entrepreneurs operate and influence government policies on youth employment and youth participation in society.
"I have learned that volunteer work is very well developed in Europe. I want to adopt this good practice into practices of my community, Dornogovi province" says a participant of the study tour, G.Unurtsetseg.
"In order to ensure the development of civil society, it is necessary to improve the citizens' education and important to encourage their active participation in society. I have learned that it is possible to ensure their active participation by raising public awareness of each activity's importance, values, and needs." says a participant of the study tour, E. Tamir.
Moreover, the Working Group (WG) was established under the “All for YOUth, YOUth for all” project and conducted a series of dialogues, public discussions, and other stakeholder meetings. As a result, the WG produced “Policy recommendations to increase youth employment” and submitted it to the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection in 2021. Therefore, representatives of WG members are the main participants in the study tour.
Participants visited a total of 11 government and non-government organizations which work for youth development, youth volunteerism, and youth employment. As a result of the study tour, all participants have increased their knowledge of European good practices on youth employment and youth empowerment. All participants were active to participate in the study tour and each participant prepared a plan on how to disseminate knowledge and further adopt them into their work and practice. Each participant will organize at least one knowledge and experience-sharing workshop or advocacy meeting in their respective community OR other employment activities.
