Helping entrepreneurs in recycling sector to grow

Mongolia ranks in the top 10 countries for the most plastic waste per person globally, yet only 6% of plastic waste in Mongolia is recycled. The Sustainable Plastic Recycling in Mongolia (SPRIM) project, implemented by Caritas Czech Republic in Mongolia with funding from the European Union and SWITCH-Asia, has partnered with recycling businesses in Ulaanbaatar to see how they can reach their full potential.

SPRIM has been diligently researching the movements of the recycling ecosystem to find opportunities for change. The ground-breaking research along with hours of conversations with recycling company representatives has led SPRIM to run 10 training sessions for the companies. The training sessions each focus on a different topic that are focused to help recycling companies reach their full potential.

“I am glad to participate in this useful, practical and applicable training for small and medium enterpreneurs in plastic recycling sector. Each training is conducted on different crucial topics; thus, there is a lot to learn. I work for an organization which aims to reduce and recycle plastic waste in Ulaanbaatar city, turn it into products, and supply it to the market. As I result of the training, I believe that our knowledge and skills are improved, then it eventually impacts our organization’s productivity at the end” says Enkhtuya.B, one of the training partcipants and CEO at the Ter Ikh Nuur LLC.

“I think there is lack of human resources in the plastic waste recycling sector in Mongolia. The most difficult obstacle SMEs in this sector face is the lack of human resource. So, this training aims to help us to solve these issues through the topics of human resource management, marketing, financial management.  I see that it is quite important training for us” says Khurelbaatar.B, one of the training participants, and a project manager of Plastic center LLC.

Our plastic consumption grows every year, SPRIM is finding new ways to help the recycling industry turn this waste burden into new, useful products for all Mongolians.
