What we do

We help where we are needed. We provide immediate humanitarian aid to people affected by war or natural disaster. As part of our development cooperation, we help people to cut loose and make a living. We focus on the development of health care and social protection as well as  rural development and environmental protection and actively work on systemic changes in Mongolia.

Supporting a greener and more energy efficient construction industry in Mongolia

Mongolia is currently experiencing a construction boom and it has become evident that there is a lack of knowledge regarding the ecological footprint of the construction industry among the stakeholders in this sector. From the design to the materials used and the insulation techniques applied, there is little awareness of how to reduce the environmental impact of the construction process, and lack of knowledge of the economic benefits of environmentally friendly materials and technologies.

Improving food security of herders’ population dependent on animal husbandry

Dzud crisis has affected 12 aimags, which were officially declared to be in the disaster stage, and resulted in the loss of more than 7.2 million livestock, equivalent to 16.4% of the national herd of 44 million livestock in 2010. In a country, where 1/3 of the population is nomadic and livestock is integral component of rural livelihoods, particularly for poor and vulnerable herder households, this huge loss is fatal.

Socio-Economic Stabilization of Geographically and Socially Isolated Communities

Although Mongolia is well on the way to achieving the third Millennium Development goal of universal education, there are still some education issues which need to be addressed, such as the disparity between urban and rural areas, less than half of pre-school age children enrolled in kindergartens or alternative forms of early childhood development and low rate of enrolment in school and kindergarten of children with physically and developmental challenges in 2008. In the period following the cessation of Soviet support for the education system in Mongolia in 1991, there was a severe decline in the provision of pre-school education.

There are almost no social workers in state services according to the traditional concept of this profession according to the experts from Asian Development Bank. Although a lot of social workers work in government service on the “social worker” position, they usually have only high school education, and this profession is usually grasped only in terms of performance of administrative tasks.
